Privacy policy

The app has no account and no analytics, and your answers are stored on your own phone. One feature, the mentor, is off until you turn it on. When you use it, the day you ask about leaves the phone, as set out below.

What we collect

Nothing, unless you use the mentor. No name, no email address, no phone number, no location, no contacts and no advertising identifier.

When you use the mentor, our server receives the day you ask about and a random install number the app made for itself. To limit how often the mentor can be called, the server keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of that number for up to 40 days, and a hashed form of your internet address for one hour, each with a count of calls. It keeps no text. DeepSeek, which writes the reply, keeps what it receives under its own privacy policy.

The app has no sign-in screen, because there is nothing to sign in to.

That sentence is about the app. This website has one form on it, for a launch announcement, and an email address is the whole point of it. It is described under This website below. The app never asks for an address and never sends one anywhere.

Where your answers go

Every answer you write is saved to a database stored on your own phone. It stays inside the app's private storage, which the operating system keeps separate from other apps.

Nothing is uploaded unless you use the mentor. We run no server that stores your entries, so there is no copy of your journal anywhere but your phone.

The mentor

The mentor is the one feature that sends your writing off the phone, and it is off until you turn it on. When you ask it about a day, the written answers of that day go to a server we run on Cloudflare, which forwards them to DeepSeek, an AI company, and returns the reply. Our server keeps nothing: no copy, no log line with the text in it. DeepSeek's handling of what it receives is under its own terms. Only the day you ask about is sent, never the whole journal. The reply is saved on your phone with that day. You can turn the mentor off at any time, and nothing more is sent.

Your copy of the data

A button in Profile writes your whole history out as a JSON file. The file belongs to you. Where you put it, and who you show it to, is your decision alone.

To delete everything, uninstall the app. That removes the database with it. We hold no copy, so there is no deletion request to make and nobody to make it to.

What the app does not use

  • No analytics of any kind, and no crash reporting service.
  • No advertising, no advertising identifier and no tracking.
  • No third-party software development kit that reports to another company.
  • No cookies, because the app is not a web page.
  • No social login, and no connection to any social network.

Reminders

A reminder is scheduled by your own phone and shown by your own phone. The text is already inside the app. No reminder is sent from a server, and no reminder reports back that you read it.

You can turn every reminder off, and none is switched on without your choice.

This website

This site is a set of static files. It sets no cookie and runs no analytics.

There is one form on it, at the bottom of the home page, and it asks for an email address so we can tell you the day the app is released. If you fill it in, here is exactly what happens to the address:

  • It is stored on our host, Cloudflare, and nowhere else. It is not sold, not shared, and not passed to any other company.
  • It is never joined to anything. There is no account here and no journal here to join it to.
  • It is used for one message when the Android app is released, and one more if an iPhone version ever follows. There is no newsletter.
  • Ask us to remove it and we will, and we will not keep a record that you asked. The address to write to is at the bottom of this page.

Leaving the form empty costs you nothing. The app does not know whether you filled it in.

Our host records ordinary server logs, such as an IP address and a request time, in the normal course of serving a page. We do not read them to identify a person.

Payment

The app sells a subscription and a one-time purchase. Google Play or the Apple App Store handles the payment, not us. We never see and never hold a card number, a name or a billing address.

The app asks the store one question — whether this device's store account holds a purchase — and the store answers on the device. Nothing about a payment reaches a server of ours, because we run none for it.

What the store itself keeps about your purchase is under its own privacy policy, not this one.

Children

The app is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. It asks nobody for a name, an age or an email address, whatever their age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that reduces your privacy would need a new app version, and you would choose whether to install it.
